Can-Am has raised its game and reinforced its performance leadership in the ATV market with a revised Can-Am Outlander ATV lineup for 2017.
Changes include more value-driven ATVs, the unification and efficient restructuring of the Can-Am Outlander name, updated performance gains, new colors and, of course, new specialty packages like the revised Can-Am XT-P models and the new Outlander Mossy Oak Hunting Edition 1000R ATV.
The Can-Am Outlander family of 4x4 ATVs consists of the Outlander 450, Outlander 570, Outlander 650, Outlander 850 and Outlander 1000R lineups. Can-Am Outlander ATVs are the category leaders in engine performance at every displacement level.
All five Outlander displacement levels are available in a one-up chassis or a longer wheelbase (MAX) two-up platform. Also, all Outlander ATVs are available at different price points with various unique features, different specialized packages and color schemes. Those additional packages are comprised of base models (450, 570, 650), DPS, (all engines), XT (570, 650, 850, 1000R), Mossy Oak Hunting Edition (570/1000R) and XT-P (850/1000R).
Can-Am Outlander ATVs are built around the industry-exclusive chassis and suspension designs and share many of the same specifications, engineering and components aside from their engine displacement levels, chassis lengths and packages-specific features. The Can-Am Outlander 450 ATV is the most affordable Outlander ever in the U.S., with its $5,999 starting price.
Can-Am Outlander XT-P 1000R/XT-P 850
The sport-oriented, rec-utility Outlander XT-P 1000R and XT-P 850 ATVs expand upon the Outlander XT platform with its own unique features. Along with an all-new painted Triple Black coloration for 2017, these flagship ATVs also sport new Fox 1.5 Podium QS3 piggyback shocks, new 14-inch cast-aluminum wheels with authentic beadlocks and new ITP TerraCross tires and much more.

Performance
2 Rotax V-Twin engine options
The muscular 89-hp, 80 degree F 976cc liquid-cooled 8-valve Rotax V-Twin engine in the Outlander 1000R ATV leads its class in performance.
The Outlander 850 family is powered by a 78-hp, liquid-cooled, 80 degree F 854cc V-Twin engine, which is the most powerful engine in its category.
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
The CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) means no shifting is required. The system includes standard engine braking with High, Low, Park, Neutral and Reverse gears. A standard L gear ratio adds more comfort for low-speed riding and better traction for pulling heavy loads. The CVT housing has 13 bolts to ensure a proper seal and also includes an integrated drain plug.
Dual-room, no-tools air box
A no-tools air box is placed at a higher and more centralized location for filtering and processing air. A dual-room air filtration design captures dirty air in one portion of the box and clean air in another section before it sends the air to the engine. A higher air intake ensures performance in mud and water.
Large radiators
The large, efficient radiators offer exceptional cooling capacity to keep the Rotax V-Twin engines running cool for optimal performance. The Outlander 1000R has roughly 27 kW of cooling capacity. The 850 and 650 each have very capable 22 kW radiators.

The piggyback shocks also enhance the XT-P ATV’s handling and performance in challenging conditions.
Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension
With far less moving parts than competitive systems, TTI is designed to eliminate scrub and camber changes when the suspension works up and down and keep the quad in straight line. The rear suspension also has motion-control shocks and offers 9.3 inches of travel. It includes a removable external swaybar and lower pivot points for geometric squatting to improve traction and power transfer.
Double A-arm front suspension with dive-control geometry
The Outlander ATVs use a dependable double A-arm front suspension with nine inches of travel. Dive-control geometry tightly controls the roll-center, especially when entering corners. The setup also inspires confidence, reducing kickback to the operator by locating the knuckle in the wheel.
