Polaris XP 800/900 vs. Can-Am Commander 800/1000

Published in the September 2011 Issue September 2011 Chuck Radawick, Roy, WA

Dear Editor:

I just received (and read) the Summer 2011 edition of the magazine. I noticed that you stated the Can-Am Commander 1000 had 85 "class leading" horsepower ["Time To Work, Time To Play," Dirt Toys, Summer, 2011, page 27]. The Polaris XP 900 has 88 hp and was an "industry leader" ["This RZR Rips," Dirt Toys, Summer, 2011, page 19.] Both of these side by side vehicles are within 100cc of each other.

Their siblings are both 800cc models; how about a "show down" between the two? You listed the Polaris XP 900 as costing $15,999, how much does the Commander 1000 cost?

In these "penny pinching" times, shouldn't we know the best value for our dollar?

(ED-We agree, $12,799 for the Commander 1000 and yes. You did make a nice catch in the stories about the RZR XP and the Commander and their respective horsepower. Technically, those statements are still accurate, however, because the RZR 900 is in a class by itself and the Commander 1000 is in the 1000 class. Still, it can be a little confusing. We'll work on putting a shootout together for a future issue.)
