Oscoda, MI - Huron Shores District Ranger Shawn Cochran advised earlier this month that he has issued a decision to implement the All-Terrain Vehicle Trails Connecting Communities Project in Alcona and Iosco counties, as proposed.
The project designates 28.47 miles of Huron-Manistee National Forests trails as ATV routes and will result in the construction of 4.68 miles of new trail.
According to Cochran's decision memo, this will add about 33 miles of trail connecting to communities, services and other trails for use by motor vehicles which are 50 inches or less in width.
In addition to being part of the National Forest system, the trails will be part of the Michigan designated trail system and will be operated and maintained by the parks and recreation commissions serving Alcona and Iosco counties.
