Yesterday we were able to take Yamaha’s new Grizzly ATV on an aggressive test drive though Tennessee’s Windrock Park. Today it was the Kodiak’s turn.
Whereas the Grizzly is targeted toward the strictly recreational/off-trail enthusiast crowd, the 2016 Kodiak ATV is a utility/work vehicle and even maybe a good ATV for hunters.
It’s biggest attraction is the price tag, which is $6,999 for the base model. The Kodiak is more compact than the Grizzly and has a less aggressive clutching setup. For example, the Kodiak uses 30 gram weights in the clutch vs. the Grizzly’s 18 grams. It is definitely a more basic workhorse compared to the Grizzly although the two ATVs share the same engine and, thus, have the same horsepower and torque.
We basically rode the Kodiak on the same trail system at Windrock that we did the Grizzly but our ride was cut short by a heavy—and we do mean heavy—downpour.
We’ll have a more detailed report in the pages of Dirt Toys Magazine.
