Of course there is always a chance … but you figure you’re usually safe from snow or really cold rain storms by the end if June, even in the mountains.
That’s what we were thinking when we planned an outing in Island Park, ID, for June 29. We had the side-by-sides and ATVs all lined up and we were going, rain or shine. Well, we did have a little of both—rain and sunshine—but for good measure, Mother Nature threw in a little snow too.
The snow was on top of Mount Sawtell (elevation 9,865 feet). It was just a skiff—which added to the snow that still hasn’t melted from last winter—and it snowed lightly for a few minutes on top of the mountain.
Good times.
We dropped off the mountain and explored other parts of the expansive Island Park trail system and the sun did come out.
It ended up being a great ride and one full of memories (and lots of mud).
