Jerusalem -- Israel will buy Chinese vehicles for the first time to equip Israeli police with all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) manufactured by China's CFMoto, the Hebrew financial website Calcalist reported Tuesday.

The Israeli import company Ofer Avnir has won a tender from Israel's Government Vehicle Administration for supply and maintenance of ATVs and freight tractors for three years, with an option for three more years.

Thus, the importing company will supply the first order of 20 CFMoto CForce 850XC ATVs for Israel Police.

As part of the order, Ofer Avnir will also provide the police with 35 of Canada's Can-Am Traxter HD8 freight tractors.

The purchase followed road tests conducted by professional police and external bodies. The tests included technical outline, maneuvering in narrow spaces and in a crowded environment, maintenance and operation costs, and fuel consumption.

The expected value decline after six years of use was also concerned, while the police offered to sell the vehicles after they finished service.

Later, the Israel Police and other governmental bodies are expected to order another hundreds of vehicles of both types.

Ofer Avnir, based in the coastal city of Tel Aviv, imports ATVs, motorcycles, off-road vehicles, work vehicles, motorcycles and electric vehicles.

The Israeli company has been marketing CFMoto's ATVs and side-by-side utility vehicles for the past seven years.
