Pocatello, ID - The BlueRibbon Coalition (BRC), a national trail based recreation group, supports President Obama's designation of the Berryessa Snow Mountain Region as a National Monument.
BRC has worked in partnership with Tuleyome, a regional conservation group based in Woodland, CA, Congressman Mike Thompson and Senator Barbara Boxer to assure the protection of the region's many natural resources and the recreational interest of the off-road vehicle community. It has been an innovative, strong partnership between interest groups that have been adversaries in the past. BRC believes it has grown beyond those differences and has charted a new future starting with the trust and actions taken together on this project.
Don Amador, Western Representative for the BlueRibbon Coalition, said, "I believe this particular instance creates a unique opportunity to create a 'win-win' Monument that will embody the principles espoused by even the staunchest opponents of Presidential authority. This proposal has been formed with meaningful input from diverse local stakeholders, and is supported by them."
I believe this monument designation will improve economic opportunities for the local economies; increase coordination between federal agencies; provide well-managed recreation opportunities including casual and permitted off-road vehicle activity on designated roads, trails and areas; safeguard the area's natural beauty, sensitive areas, wildlife and rare plants; and ensure the continued use and enjoyment of these lands for future generations."
