One of the editors here at Harris Publishing, publishers of Dirt Toys Magazine, along with its sister publication, SnoWest Magazine, was invited to a big Honda event—or as we call it Honda Nirvana—earlier this year and came back with a raft-load of pictures.
The Honda event—officially known as Honda Dream Garage—covered every imaginable product Honda produces from cars to power equipment to Honda engines to marine products to (our favorite) powersports. He—Brady Kay—was invited because of he is the editor of Pontoon and Deck Boat and Houseboat magazines.
We, by the way, were stuck back in the office while Kay was getting to drive and test all sorts of vehicles. It looks like the only vehicle missing from the event was Honda’s new jet.
So along with the pictures, here are some interesting facts we gleaned from the powerpoint presentation Kay brought back to us. This information covers many of Honda’s products, not use powersports.
- Honda is the largest engine manufacturer in the world.
- 28 million Honda engines were sold globally in fiscal year 2015
- 97 percent of Honda Power Equipment buyers own a vehicle and 64 percent of those vehicles are a Honda automobile
- Honda’s newest concept vehicle, the FCV, is an all-new plug-in hybrid.
- 64 percent of total American Honda Power Equipment wholesales are sourced from Honda’s Power Equipment manufacturing facility in Swepsonville, NC.
- There are 9,000 Honda Power Equipment and Marine dealers in the United States
- Honda introduced the world’s first four-stroke outboard in 1964
- The UNI-CUB personal mobility device features the world's first omni-directional driving wheel system (Honda Omni Traction Drive System), which features two large diameter metal wheels covered by many smaller wheels running laterally across its surface.
