Riding RZRS With Snow Folks

Published in the December 2014 Issue December 2014

It sounded logical to us. The Polaris Industries snow team suggested that maybe we could get together this past summer and go for a RZR ride. As many of you know, we also publish SnoWest Magazine, which caters to western snowmobilers who like the steep terrain and deep snow. So when the Polaris snow team made the suggestion, we were all over it.

We spent a day riding Polaris RZRs with Polaris’ snow team, which included marketing and engineering folks, along with Polaris athletes Dan Adams, Chris Burandt and Keith Curtis. Burandt is a former Winter X Games winner and Curtis is a world champion snowmobile hillclimber, while Adams has a snowmobile riding school in Wyoming.

We all piled in to several RZR 900 and 1000 vehicles and headed out from our home base at the East Ridge Ranch north of Kremmling, CO, and rode a series of trails up to elevations passing the 11,000-foot mark. In places we were treated to sweeping views of the Colorado’s stunning mountains. The leaves were changing as fall was well under way in the mountains, so that just added to the amazing views and overall ride.

Those RZRs swallowed up even the roughest, rock-strewn trails as well as the high desert, barely-visible trails our host Jodi Hill led us over. It was a great 50-mile ride and the weather was perfect.
