Adding More Goodies to Project BackCountry RZR

RyFab Cargo Box

“This box is a must for anyone who has a RZR,” Tibbens said. “The install was extremely easy; the box comes pre-assembled and includes all the hardware needed to install the box into the RZR.”

There are six screws that mount the optional top rack to the lid of the cargo box, which helps make installation of the rack extremely simple. Then there are four compression screws that, when tightened, expand (just like a boat plug). These four bolts mount in the pre-drilled holes in the RyFab cargo box and are perfectly aligned with holes in the RZR’s bed as Tibbens pointed out.

Once the bolts are installed on the cargo box, you drop the box down into the bed, making sure the bolts go into the holes on the cargo box. For the next step, Tibbens said it is helpful to have someone assist you as you need to reach under the bed with an open end wrench to hold the nut, then reach into the cargo box to tighten the bolt and expand the rubber bushing until it is tight in the hole of the RZR’s bed. One person can hold the nut while the other does the tightening. Repeat the process for all four bolts and you are done.

“The box is very well made and is waterproof and dustproof,” Tibbens said. “Anyone who has a RZR knows that if you put anything in the bed of your RZR it is going to be covered in dust/dirt on even the shortest of rides.”

He continued, “One thing that I really like about the box is the locking latch. When hunting, the RZR gets me to the trailheads and then sits there as I hike in and do my thing, often times sitting there all day. It is nice to be able to put my valuables in the cargo box and lock it and not even think twice about someone with sticky fingers.”

RyFab Windshield

Tibbens noted that the RyFab windshield is also very easy to install.

“As I took the windshield out of the box, I could tell RyFab does make a quality product,” he said. “The company took a lot of care in packaging both items for shipping to make sure they don’t get damaged.”

The windshield comes with everything needed for the install. Tibbens explained why he was particularly impressed with this RyFab windshield. He said, “One thing that is very different about this windshield kit that is a huge plus is the windshield actually folds down with the removal of two pins, much like the old Jeep Willys. That is very nice to be able to do that on a hot day when you want the air.”

Tibbens said the install is very easy, thanks in part to the great installation instructions that come with the windshield kit. First, you mount the brackets that holds the windshield when it’s folded down. The brackets mount to the front corners of the RZR where there are two pop rivets that hold the front fenders to the front grill assembly. The brackets come with the screws needed to do this. Remove the pop rivets and install the brackets with the provided screws.

Next, unbolt the roll cage at the front bungs to be able to install the windshield mounting brackets. To accomplish this step, you need a set of large Allen wrenches. Remove the bolts and use the provided longer bolts to mount the windshield brackets to the inside of the roll bars. Next, mount the windshield to the brackets you have just installed with the four provided bolts.

Once that is complete, locate the two circular mounting brackets that mount on the top of the roll cage so you can attach the top of the windshield in the up position and secure it up.

“Last, but not least, is the windshield wiper and arm,” Tibbens explained. “If you are ordering this windshield I would highly recommend the windshield wiper kit. It is not expensive and, trust me, you will use it much more than you think.”

He added, “I would recommend this windshield to anyone in the market for one. Spend the extra money and get the safety glass windshield from RyFab rather than a ‘scratch resistant’ plexiglass/plastic windshield, because, trust me, I had one of the plastic ones and after one summer from being very careful and wiping off dust, the windshield is horribly scratched and with direct sunlight makes it very difficult to see through.”
