Matter of Survival

July 2017 New Products

What do you do when you find yourself totally submerged in a creek, 20 miles from the trailhead and the sun is starting to set? Well, it better be focused on staying alive.

We found ourselves in that situation last winter when a rider broke through the ice while crossing a creek. Soaked from his neck down, it was imperative to make all the right decisions to avoid a deadly situation.

It was a good thing that we had the Survive Outdoors Longer Emergency Bivvy with us to provide quick shelter in an ultra-warm, ultra-light, heat-reflective polyethylene bag.

The Emergency Bivvy is fully sealed so that no wind, rain, or snow can get inside. In this situation, it provided the warmth to bring the body core temperature back to where it needed. But it can also be used to keep you warm if you're forced to spend the unexpected night outdoors.

We averted a life-and-death situation by being prepared. The Emergency Bivvy comes in a pouch that’s about the size of a large can of Pork & Beans. It weights just under four ounces. So it’s something that can easily fit in a backpack.

It retails for $17. For more information contact www.surviveoutdoorslonger.com.
