A variance process is underway for the Northern Highland – American Legion State Forest (NHAL) Master Plan [PDF].
The variance designates approximately 11 miles of Wisconsin DNR roads and trails as ATV/UTV routes on the property to aid in the connection of a North-South route across the NHAL property. This route, when complete, will connect Woodruff to the Town of Sayner.
The master plan for this property was approved by the Natural Resources Board in 2005, and was amended in 2017 to meet the public’s changing recreation needs. The 2017 Amendment allowed for the planning of 202 miles of designated ATV/UTV routes on DNR roads, trails and short stretches of new construction.
Forty-two miles of ATV/UTV routes were planned in 2017. The 11 miles in this variance are planned as part of the remaining 160 authorized miles of ATV/UTV routes.
