Sacramento, CA – A national organization with a focus on post wildfire recovery is being formed in response to popular OHV recreation areas impacted by intense wildfires burning in California and the West. The Post Wildfire OHV Recovery Alliance (PWORA) will help federal OHV recreation areas and local economies recover from damage caused by extreme wildfires and other natural disasters.
Partners and volunteers are needed. PWORA will work with diverse array of strategic partners to secure needed resources that can be deployed to address the devastating effects that intense wildfires have on recreation facilities, outdoor opportunities and rural communities, while blending in all cooperating and assisting groups, clubs, organizations and volunteers. PWORA will comply with all necessary safety and federal guidelines as needed for post fire recovery and rehabilitation operations.
The PWORA Strategic Steering Committee is composed of Ted Cabral, CA OHV Commissioner; Don Amador, Quiet Warrior Racing; Del and Stacie Albright, ModernJeeper.com; Matson Breakey, MetalCloak; Jeff Blewett, Calif. 4WD Assoc (C4WDA); Eric Lueder, Marin County M/C; and Art Crofts dirt biking veteran.
Del Albright, PWORA Planning Chief, states, “The Mendocino Complex and Carr Fires are a stark reminder that the West faces a significant and ongoing threat from current and future catastrophic wildfires. Besides the human toll and destruction of property, these intense wildfires can destroy entire networks of designated OHV roads, trails, areas, and campgrounds.”
Matson Breakey, industry representative from MetalCloak, said, "The efforts put forward by PWORA will be critical in reviving damaged OHV trails and recreation sites … sites that are strategically important for the continued enjoyment of public lands and support of local economies by outdoor enthusiasts from around the world"
