USFS Proposes Adding 32 Miles Of ATV Trails In Florida

April 2013 Powersport News, Travel By Jason Ogden, Oscoda Press

Oscoda, FL - All-terrain vehicle (ATV) riders in Iosco and Alcona Counties could be enjoying 32 miles of additional trails in the coming year, according to Gordon Haase of the U.S. Forest Service.

The Forest Service has developed a draft plan for implementing the new trails, which involves converting fire and administration roads for use by ATVs and other off-road vehicles no more than 50 inches in width.

The agency opened a 30-day public comment period on the plan March 27.

Haase said the trail expansion proposal is the result of requests by members of the ATV community seeking to reach trailheads in areas where they can access services, such as restaurants or gas pumps.
