The second day of Rally in the Pines opened at 7 a.m. on Friday with registration and was jam packed with activities until the Rally Ice Cream Social ended at 9 p.m.
There was a fundraiser breakfast that was then followed by various trail rides leaving the Rally Park. Dirt Toys lead the Long Lost Creek Trail Ride that left at 9:30. There were 20 vehicles that went and we took our media loaner Yamaha YXZ1000R and our project Polaris RZR XP 1000.
The ride took us through Pass Creek Canyon and into the Lost River Range to the Long Lost Creek Trail. The scenery was just as stunning as it was a few weeks ago when we previewed the ride. (Read about it here: http://www.dirttoysmag.com/2016/06/rally-in-the-pines-preview)
There was a little chill in the air through the canyon but it warmed up as our ride progressed. The only thing missing would have been a little rain in the days leading up so there wouldn’t have been as much dust, but getting dirty is just part of the fun. And, after we got back, we took our vehicles through the Rally Wash.
After everyone was back from their respective rides and washed up, the next event on the schedule was the Rally Parade. Both vendors and participants dressed up and decorated their ATVs and side-by-sides. There was anything from Santa Claus to a Roman-inspired chariot. Those not in the parade lined the streets of Mackay to watch and to collect the candy and goodies thrown.
The vendor booths opened again after the parade and the Glass Key Band took to the main stage to put on a concert. The Rally Ice Cream Social was definitely a hit, because who doesn’t like ice cream sandwiches and orange cream popsicles.
Saturday’s schedule of events was similar to Friday’s. There was the Geocaching Ride and then the Rally Lunch Ride that had food served at the group site on a mountain summit. Scott Balsai of Acoustic Reflections performed at the lunch.
After the rides, the Rally Wash was available again and the vendor booths opened. Prize drawings were held with the Show & Shine Contest following. The Dirt Toys Prize Wheel took place at the main stage.
The Rally Western Dinner was served that night and consisted of a slow-roasted pulled pork barbecue sandwich with homemade potato salad, fresh coleslaw, oven baked beans and a drink. Saturday’s events concluded with The Haunted Ghost Town Night Ride.
The last day of the Rally is Sunday and will consist of rides. Dirt Toys will lead the Long Lost Creek Trail Ride one last time.
