It’s been a few days since we first had a chance to drive the new 2019 Can-Am Maverick Sport as well as several Outlander ATVs. Sometimes, after a few days of thinking about something, the emotion of the day’s events has settled down and you’re able to draw some conclusions—for better or for worse.
Here are our initial conclusions. First, the Can-Am Maverick Sport will quickly establish itself as one of the best 60-inch vehicles on dirt. Yes, it’s that good and it’s that much fun to drive. Second, Can-Am’s ATV line of Outlanders has become a must-look after BRP dropped the price of some of its ATVs while adding several new features for 2019.
We spent two days driving the Maverick Sport and Outlander ATVs (mostly the 1000R, 850 and 850 MAX) in the Shuswap Range of the Monashee Mountains near Sicamous, BC, as well as in the woods on the property of Carl Kuster Mountain Camp (www.carlkuster.com). Those were the perfect testing grounds for those vehicles.
Maverick Sport Plenty of power. Comfy it is to sit in and drive. Very good suspension. Half doors. Dripping with creature comforts and other features.
Outlander ATVs These vehicles reminded us just how much fun—and capable—ATVs are. Price drop of $400-750 on select models. The 1000R has more than enough power to tackle anything plausible from the seat of an ATV. And the 850’s power isn’t too shabby either.
